Ashley's Thoughts on Howard College
Why Howard College?
First, as a veteran transfer student I needed a college that understood me and could provide answers to all of my questions and concerns regarding my unique situation. Second, I chose Howard College because of the low cost of tuition. I endeavored to find an excellent education that would fit into my budget. Most importantly, I coveted a college that could provide leadership experience, social and personal growth, and community volunteer involvement. Howard College not only meets those exacting standards but exceeds them! This is the place to get plugged into the community.
Well, having served 13 years in the Army, I knew that I wanted a change in my career path. The very first microbiology lab I had with Professor Guevara changed my entire perspective on what path to take. In that class and lab I found the passion and fire that for so long in my life had been missing. I am completely in love with all things micro.
My nearest future plans involve attending the NASA-CAS Aerospace Scholar Internship Program in April. My biggest goal, as of now, will be realized May 16, 2015 when I walk the stage for Graduation as a first generation College Graduate! In the end, I will be working in Research and Development in the Microbiological field.
That's tough, as I have three that have equally challenged and inspired me. The professor who changed my life was Professor Guevara. His passion for microbiology was the catalyst that sparked my own interest. His passion for the subject was so profound that it was quite contagious!

Best Studying Advice
I encourage students to try different study methods, such as audio, visual, memorization, or a combination of all of these and see which works best. Studying can be difficult but knowing your strengths can make it so much easier!
Most Valuable Learning Experience
Being an SGA officer has provided numerous lessons on commitment, time management, leadership skills, self-expression and acceptance, failure and success. Without jumping into SGA, I would never had thought myself capable of such feats and fun!
Relax and Have Fun
On campus it's the gorgeous new Library or the Student Connection Center. Otherwise, I feel like I live at Stango's with my SGA ladies!
What I like most about Howard College
The clubs and organizations! Without them, class would feel like an occupation, so get involved.
What I tell future Howard College students
You are worth it and worthy of a great education, so go find your passion!
