Elizabeth's Thoughts on Howard College

Why Howard College?
When I first made the decision to go back to school after so many years I felt overwhelmed and extremely nervous.  After my first visit at Howard, the faculty and staff made me feel welcomed and comfortable.  I chose Howard because I knew it was the right place for me to begin my journey.  Thank you to everyone at Howard College without you I would not be moving forward.

Why Psychology?
I had originally come back to school to become a teacher, I even substitute taught to make sure it was something I wanted to do, but as I started taking other classes and learning new things I realized that I wanted to do something more to help children.  I overcame a very abusive childhood so I decided to major in psychology so I can help children and adults who suffer with PTSD from childhood traumas overcome obstacles that may inhibit daily activities.

Career Goals
My success at Howard and an exciting acceptance to the University of Texas at Austin led me to believe that I can accomplish anything.  Hopefully my future will hold great promise with a doctorate in psychology and eventually my own practice specializing in the needs of children.

Favorite Professor
There are so many wonderful and helpful people at Howard, it is incredibly hard to choose, but my favorite is Mr. Calvio.  Calvio teaches Introduction to Sociology and I have not only taken this class but I have had the privilege of facilitating this class at Howard.  It is difficult for instructors to find a balance between personal and professional relationships with students and I think that Calvio does this perfectly.

Best Studying Advice
When it comes to studying there is only one thing to say…Just Do It!!!  Studying will pay off in the long run, not only at Howard but for every other step you plan to pursue.

Most Valuable Learning Experience
The people at Howard have taught me to never give up, but my life has taught me to never define myself from past experiences.  Your past is not what makes you who you are, what makes you who are is where you are striving to go in the future.

Relax and Have Fun
I enjoy spending time with my children; after all they are my life.

What I like most about Howard College
I love that Howard is affordable and small enough to make anyone feel at home.  If you are even considering going back to school or even ready to start a new career, Howard is the place to start it.

What I tell future Howard College students
Dear Future Student, this is the first step to many wonderful things to come.  Never give up and remember to keep your eyes on the prize.  At times things may get difficult but always remember that anything worth having does not come easy.  Fight for what you want!
